Millers class have been enjoying our ‘Celebration’ topic this term. We have started looking at the concept of light as a symbol. The children worked hard to make their own mosaic candles to help them remember a special person or a special time.
Millers explored how the symbol of light is important to different people for different reasons. We initially learnt how the symbol of light is an important in Judaism; especially during Hanukah. The class thoroughly enjoyed exploring the story of Hanukah through drama. They have also had lots of fun participating in many of the Jewish Hanukah customs and traditions such as making dreidels
decorations, Hannukiah cards, playing dreidel games and singing Hanukah songs.
As it gets nearer to Christmas we will start to think about how light is also an important symbol for Christians, particularly at this time of the year.
